Learning: Planting Grown Tubers Click an image to view a larger versionPhoto 1: Sometimes a tuber will have a lot of growth before we get to plant it in the garden. Here is a well developed tuber with a tall growing plant. Care must be taken when handling a plant like this Photo 2: Here we see the bottom 2 leaves that were removed. This will allow us to plant deeper and as a bonus the points where we removed the leaves will produce tubers. Photo 3: The tuber is planted close to the installed stake in a shallow hole. Note the position of the tuber in relation to the stake. Photo 4 & 5: Show the planted tuber and how we tie it to the stake. This is most important as the stem is still quite tender and needs the support of the tie. A good soaking will help the plant get established. |
